NOTHING IS WASTED

IN OUR CYCLE

Organic farming in harmony with natural cycles is central to us. That’s why the WESTHOF BIO Group offers 360-degree organic quality from start to finish – from top-notch organic vegetables to regenerative energy production. Every kilowatt-hour we consume in our production cycle is generated using solar energy, wind power, and biogas produced on-site. This enables us to operate energy-neutral.

Organic Cultivation

Fresh organic vegetables, powerful clover

Our Organic Cultivation supplies both retail and our freezing facility. Clover grass and flowering meadow cuttings from the crop rotation are used in the biogas plant.

Intelligent agriculture

Our Research & Development department continually works on new innovative solutions to make our Organic Cultivation even more sustainable.

Organic Greenhouse

Our organic vegetables are full of energy

The Organic Greenhouse delivers freshly harvested tomatoes and bell peppers to retailers. Fruits that are not marketable are utilized in the biogas plant.

Organic Trade

Bio-Class and Biomass

The Organic Trade processes the top-quality organic vegetables for the fresh produce market and the Organic Freezing Facility. Non-consumable organic vegetables are fermented in the biogas plant.

Organic Freezing Facility

A giant battery

Organic vegetables from cultivation and trade are processed gently into organic frozen products. Non-processable organic vegetables are fermented in the biogas plant.
Electricity from renewable energies is stored as heat and supplied to the process as needed. Process water is treated, stored in lagoons, and used for irrigation of agricultural land.

Renewable Energies

Natural fertilizer

The biomass remaining after fermentation into biogas serves as a natural fertilizer and is applied to our soils as needed.

From gas to electricity

When biogas is converted into electricity in the combined heat and power plant (CHP), heat is generated. This heat is stored and used to heat our Organic Greenhouses. The CO2-rich exhaust from the CHP is first cleaned and then directed into our greenhouses. There, the CO2 helps the delicious organic vegetables grow.

DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH

Organic Cultivation

Our fields in the western part of Dithmarschen are located directly along the North Sea coast, featuring excellent soils and clean air — ideal conditions for organic vegetable cultivation. You can taste it in our peas, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and the many other varieties of organic vegetables we grow across more than 1,000 hectares of land.

Organic Produce Trade

We are a professional partner to retailers and can offer competitive prices thanks to our size. We are serious about “organic”: All our products are traceable back to the field and undergo strict quality controls. We exclusively offer certified organic products such as Naturland, Demeter, and Bioland.

Renewable Energies

Whether wind, sun, or biomass – nature itself provides the best ideas for energy generation. We aim to harness these ideas by implementing sustainable projects for environmentally friendly production and marketing of electricity and heat from renewable sources. In addition to wind and solar energy, we also produce energy from our own biogas plant and combined heat and power plant (CHP).

Organic Greenhouse

With a total of approximately 10 hectares of cultivation area, our organic greenhouses are among the largest in Germany. Here, we grow our deliciously sun-ripened tomatoes and bell peppers, nurtured in the fertile soil of Dithmarschen and irrigated naturally with rainwater.

Organic Freezing Facility

We are Germany’s only pure organic vegetable freezing facility. This means we exclusively process vegetables from certified organic farms practicing organic agriculture. Our delicious organic vegetables are processed immediately after harvest and flash-frozen, ensuring they arrive fresh at your doorstep.

Research & Development

Agriculture and innovation go hand in hand with us – we are developing intelligent and chemical-free robotic systems for autonomous weed regulation on agricultural land. The system is based on three technologies: Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, and Big Data.

At Westhof, a forward-thinking family business, our organic vegetables such as organic broccoli, organic carrots, and organic cauliflower thrive thanks to motivated employees and a dynamic team. As a training company, we promote sustainable agriculture and offer career opportunities in an inspiring environment.

A Future-Proof Employer

We are more than just producers and processors of organic vegetables. Our goal is to support people on their career paths and provide them with opportunities to grow in an inspiring and dynamic environment.

Our company culture is based on shared values such as teamwork, innovation and personal development. We offer not just jobs, but chances to unfold skills, achieve new heights, and become part of a community that takes pride in promoting high-quality food and sustainable development.
